"I started playing darts when I was 18 years old. I worked behind the bar in a local pub so joined in the regular practice night every Friday where it was winner stayed on. I could add up from serving behind the bar, but I couldn’t take away very well so when it was my turn to mark, they switched off the electronic score board and handed me the chalk. This has proved invaluable down the line even if I did think they were being cruel at the time. I eventually got a place in the pub team on Monday nights, it was a mixed league but there were only about 3 other women that played in the whole league so I was nearly always playing against men. This spurred me on to keep winning as I didn’t want to get dropped and sit on the side lines."
"I got my England call up in 2010 and was over the moon and I have been lucky enough to be part of the England squad up to 2024.
In 2010 I decided to give the BDO tour a whirl and the first tournament I entered was the Scottish Open, I won this on the 1st anniversary of my father’s death, it was an extremely special moment for me and kickstarted my darts career. I defended this title the following year and I have won it again since. One of my other favourite tournaments is the Swedish Open which I have won 5 times."
"I made my debut at the BDO World championships at the Lakeside in 2011, I qualified for this by winning one of 2 places on offer at the world championship qualifiers. I have played in the worlds 12 times and in 2017 I was world number 1 having won the Winmau World Masters.
In 2019 I thought it was going to be my year to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming World Champion, unfortunately this was not meant to be as I ran into Mikuru Suzuki who played outstandingly!"
"I was very lucky to be offered a job with Target Darts as Head of Youth Development in 2021, I had a big decision to make as I had run my own hair and beauty business successfully for 17 years but like many others covid had taken its toll and although my business survived it showed just how easily your livelihood can be taken away. It was a no brainer for me, I love darts, I love playing and watching darts. It is an absolute honour to be able to look after talented youth players coming into the sport I love. There is no place more exciting than the youth scene for darts at the moment and we have expanded our academy sponsorship deals, I scout for new youngsters coming into the sport."
"I particularly like working with the academies, there are so many good players out there but there is so much more to it than just darts. The academies provide safe, fun environments for kids to play, yes, its great for maths but the kids interact with kids they perhaps wouldn’t normally mix with, make friends unexpectedly, learn to win, learn to lose, they are not roaming the streets causing trouble or sat in front of screens playing games. They are learning valuable skills they can take with them in life. Hats off to all the volunteers who run the academies, they do a fantastic job and its an honour to be able to support them."
